27April 2007Mid-Continent Adds to Engineering Department WICHITA, Kan. — Mid-Continent Instruments welcomes Richard Smith as the newest addition in the Engineering Department. Smith, an electrical engineer, will be responsible for the electrical hardware design of new products, electromechanical components and lighting/LED incorporation. He will also provide support in the manufacture and testing of products to verify their compliance to all performance, regulatory, and quality requirements. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University. He also brings more than 23 years of engineering experience and knowledge of motor control circuit design to his position at Mid-Continent Instruments. The past 10 years of Smith’s career have been in aviation related fields, most recently with ICE Corporation in Manhattan, Kansas and Electromech Technologies in Wichita, Kansas where he designed electronics for DC motors used in aerospace applications.
Mid-Continent Instruments manufactures aircraft instruments for the general aviation industry. Services at the Wichita, Kansas facility also include developing and manufacturing new avionics products. Mid-Continent Instruments West in Van Nuys, California provides new instrument sales and is the top-rated instrument overhaul shop on the west coast. Together the locations employ more than 150 people and offer the largest general aviation instrument overhaul/exchange program in the world. Specialties include gyro, altimeter, HSI and autopilot system overhauls. Mid-Continent instruments are found in all new Cessna airplanes and in Raytheon’s Beech line of Bonanzas, Barons, King Airs and 1900 Airliners. Instruments are sold to other manufacturers such as GARMIN International, Honeywell, Cirrus, Lancair, Piper Aircraft Inc., Diamond and Robinson Helicopter Co.
